Farmer's corner
Welcome!
I thought this week I would give you a little farm history. In 1996 I
bought our bare land with a vision and a dream for my kids and myself. I
put in a road, well, and all the utilities. I had help building the
packing shed and of course our home. It all had to be done in three
months, so I had to hustle. It's amazing what you can do when you have
to. I got everything done except our home, so I lived in our trailer for
a couple of weeks. We moved in October of 1996 and settled in for the
winter. When spring came I moved on to the next big project, which was
our state of the art irrigation system. I can say with confidence the
kids and I are experts at gluing pipe!! Then little by little we bought
all our farm equipment and here we are today.
After
years of experimenting with different varieties and types of produce we
have mastered the art of exceptional produce for our soil and micro
climate. Customers can hardly wait for our tomatoes, beans, cucumbers,
and colorful squashes. These are just a few of the thirty five or so
mouth-watering produce we now offer.
When
new perspective customers ask "Why should we buy your produce instead
of another farm's?" the answer is unequivocal. One bite of our produce
tells it all. Plants in our heavy adobe soil require less water and our
soil is rich in nutrients. This gives our produce its rich deep
flavors. The water comes from a deep well and comes up through volcanic
rock to keep it pure and sweet. The combination of our soil and water
gives our produce a flavor beyond compare.
Our farm has been a great learning experience, and one I'll never
forget. Everyone told me I couldn't do it. It just goes to show you that
with a lot of determination, perseverance and a dream anything is
possible!
I
look forward to seeing you all this week when picking up your CSA
boxes. Don't forget to try one of our many selections of CSA add-ons.
This week we will be promoting our locally farmed honey. Stop by for a
tasting when you're picking up your box.
Your local farmer,
Sharon Grossi

Carrots
To
present the carrot nutritional facts properly, it is worthwhile to
begin with the nutritional value in these wonderful taproots. A carrot,
especially the juice of carrots, supplies the human body with plenty of
Pro-Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E (Alpha-Tocopherol),
Vitamin K, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin B6 (Niacin, Folate). Carrot also
contains plentiful magnesium, phosphorous, calcium, potassium, selenium,
iron, zinc, copper, biotin, organic sodium and some other minerals in
traces.
Phytonutrients are nature's miraculous gifts with tremendous healing effects ....
